EPCA/ECR awards – the 2006 winners

Jesper Schioller, director, Laan & Spar Bank, and his
staff receive one of the EPCA/ECR Awards from Henning N. Jensen,
PlusCON, Chairman of the Award Committee.

The EPCA-ECR awards for ‘Excellence in Payments Innovation’ celebrated their third year on May 15 at the 6th international EPCA conference in Frankfurt, ‘Reshaping the European Payment Landscape,’ which was arranged by Innopay, the Dutch member of the EPCA network.

The awards are supported by ECR, with the adjudication process handled exclusively by EPCA members. The four 2006 prizes were awarded to companies which the panel of EPCA consultants judged to have made an outstanding contribution to Europe’s payments business during 2006.

In order to qualify, eligible products had to be innovative and totally new in their concept, to use new technology or processes to provide a competitive edge, to present radically improved offers to consumers, and to substantially improve the efficiency of the payment process.

EPCA and ECR consider that the awards are continuing to grow in stature and are looking forward to the 2007 awards. These will be presented at the next EPCA conference, in May 2008. Entry forms and the deadline for submissions will be publicized on the ECR and EPCA websites later this year and promoted at Cartes 2007 in Paris.

Launched 18 months ago, the EPCA/ECR awards for ‘Excellence in Payments Innovation’ celebrated their second year on April 3 2006 at the conference in Amsterdam on ‘Payment Innovation Beyond SEPA,’ which was arranged by Innopay, the Dutch member of the EPCA network.

The awards are supported by ECR, with the adjudication process handled exclusively by EPCA members. The five 2005 prizes were awarded in Amsterdam to companies which the panel of EPCA consultants judged to have made an outstanding contribution to Europe’s payments business during 2005. According to panellist Peter Jones, director of the UK’s EPCA member, Payment Systems Europe: “All the submissions were to a very high standard and as a result agreeing the shortlist has been extremely difficult.”

In order to qualify, eligible products had to be innovative and totally new in their concept, to use new technology or processes to provide a competitive edge, to present radically improved offers to consumers, and to improve the efficiency of the payment process substantially.

EPCA and ECR consider that the awards are continuing to grow in stature and are looking forward to the 2006 awards. These will be presented at the next EPCA conference, which will be arranged by Innopay in Frankfurt on May 15-16 2007.
